Nursing degrees are on the way to Australia, with online courses now being offered for those seeking to study and practise in the profession.
Dr Chris Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC), told the ABC that nursing degree providers will now be able to offer online nursing courses through their website, which will be available from 1 September.
He said that in 2018 the ANMC will be launching a series of online courses for nursing degree holders in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
“As well as providing online courses in nursing, we are also providing online and regional nursing and healthcare courses in both Australia and New Zealand,” he said.
“It is great to see that we are seeing an increase in the number of people wanting to become nurses.”
With the number that have already entered the profession, we’re seeing a huge demand from the Australian community and also from the overseas community.
“We’ve seen that a lot of the nurses we see are interested in the careers that are available to them.”
Dr Brown said the number one priority for the council was the development of quality, high-quality nursing education for Australians.
“The health system in Australia needs to be in a position where it can offer the best outcomes to our workforce,” he added.
“There is no better time than now to be getting that education up and running.”
