Rui Costas says he is ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to his brace against Italy in their opening match of Euro 2016.
The Brazil forward had to make a full recovery from a broken leg suffered in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Italy in the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico.
The 32-year-old has not played since March but has already shown he can be an effective substitute.
Costas has already scored twice in the last two games, including a stunning late strike against France.
“The fans are amazing, they are coming to support me,” he said.
“I am overwhelmed by their support.
They are here to support the national team and to see me playing.
I am just happy that they are supporting me.”
Costas’ brace against France means Brazil have won all three of their group games and will face the hosts in the quarter-finals.
He is one of five players in the World Cup squad who will be available for Brazil’s opener on Sunday.
